SkillsUSA Rally

On February 27th, the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center (CCCTC) hosted a pep rally in honor of their student skills organizations. The 3 student skills organizations from the CCCTC are SkillsUSA, Business Professionals of America (BPA), and Future Farmers of America (FFA). The pep rally was held in order for the students and staff of the CCCTC to show their support of their student competitors. The pep rally was a means of celebrating the students who had won the local SkillsUSA competitions, FFA students competing in upcoming invitational competitions and the state competition, and congratulating the students from BPA who had already competed at their regional competition and would soon be advancing to state. The school wanted to wish everyone luck and help encourage students who would be heading to regional competitions and invitational competitions the next day.

At the regional BPA competition, the following students advanced to the State Leadership Conference which was held on March 12 and 13 in Columbus, OH:

· Computer Network Technology- Glen Booth, Beaver Local; Jahlil Mixon, East Palestine

· Network Administration Using Microsoft- Nicolas Chappel, United; Caley McHenry, Beaver Local

· PC Servicing & Troubleshooting- Shane Johnson, Crestview; Mitchel Kessler, Lisbon

· Systems Administration Using Cisco- Michael Krusely, Columbiana; Micheal Doucette, East Palestine

· Fundamental Word Processing Skills- Mason Cozza, Crestview

· Presentation Management Individual- Rebeca Young, Beaver Local

At the Ohio Northeast Regional SkillsUSA competition held at Auburn Career Center on February 28, the following students advanced to the SkillsUSA Ohio Championships that will be held on April 14-15 in Columbus, OH:

· Advertising Design Silver award winner- Dustin McCartney, Interactive Multimedia, Lisbon

· Automotive Service Repair Gold award winner- Zachary Cramer, Automotive Technologies, Beaver Local

· Job Interview Bronze award winner- Alyssa Gresh, Cosmetology, Lisbon

· Photography Silver award winner- Marice Zohnd, Interactive Multimedia, Crestview

· TeamWorks Silver award winner- Construction Technologies team consisting of Dallas Wright, Leetonia ; Devon Athey, Crestview; Robert Leasure, Columbiana ;Trevor Floyd, East Palestine

On February 28 at the Agricultural Technical Institute (ATI) of the Ohio State University, the FFA livestock judging team of Erin Tucker, Beaver Local ;Josclein Mrugala, United; Katlin Leist, Beaver Local; and Matt Chestnut, Lisbon, competed in an invitational competition and took 11th place. The same team, along with an Equine team, will be competing in another invitational competition on March 21st at Ashland University. The livestock judging team will then be competing in the State competition by taking a written test for round one on March 18th followed by the 2nd round of livestock judging on March 28th. The top ten from the first two rounds will move onto the State Finals.
