Phlebotomy Technician


PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN TRAINING

CCCTC Adult Education is now offering Phlebotomy Technician training.  The training is a 2 month training that includes hands on clinical and lab.  The classes will meet 20 hours a week with evening classes.  

Phlebotomist have a variety of duties in their job.  They are trained to work in physician's offices, long-term care facilities, labs, and hospital settings.  Some of the duties they will perform are:
  1. Obtain blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks
  2. Monitor glucose levels
  3. Verify test requisitions, and patient identification
  4.  Collect nonblood specimens such as urine, sputum, and throat swabs
  5. Work in the healthcare team playing a key role

Course Description
Curriculum will include:
  1. Role of the technician in the healthcare field
  2.  Legal & Ethical Issues
  3. Infection Control
  4. Specimen Collection
  5. Venipuncture Techniques
  6. Anatomy & Physiology
  7. Hands on Training in lab and clinical setting 

Length of Program:
160 clock hours (2 months)

Dates & Times:
July - August 2024
October - November 2024
January - February 2025
May - June 2025

Credentials you will earn:
  1. State of Ohio Vocational Certificate
  2. NCCT  (National Center for Competency Testing) Phlebotomy Certification


As a minimum requirement all CCCTC Adult Education programs require students to hold a High School Diploma or GED.  See Handbook (under helpful links & forms) for specific admission requirements.

 

Students are offered instruction on using specific computer applications needed for all programs.  However, it is helpful for students to be familiar with use of a personal computer to navigate computer applications used in all CCCTC Adult Education programs.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 7.7% employment growth for phlebotomists between 2022 and 2032. In that period, an estimated 10,800 jobs should open up. Phlebotomists, or phlebotomy technicians, are health care professionals who collect blood samples from patients for tests, transfusions or donations.
